BLIESE VICTORIOUS DURING MILLER SPEEDWAY'S OPENER

Miller, SD (May 16, 2008) - The fourth time was the charm as the 2008 season finally got underway at the Miller Speedway on Friday night. There were 62 cars in attendance for the AMSOIL Dirt Track Series action, which tied the car count record set in the "old days," back in June of 1973. The merchants of Hitchcock and Tulare sponsored the candy scramble and the local National Guard brought out two vehicles as displays in honor of Armed Forces Day.

Another record field of 16 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next; last year's two biggest winners, Kevin Bliese and Lorin Johnson, battled it out for the lead. The struggle ended when Raymond Reding spun in turn two. Bliese made it around on the high side but Johnson didn't have enough room on the bottom and hit Reding's stopped car, which knocked them both out of the race. It was the only serious incident of the night, but both drivers walked away.

Bliese led the rest of the way while Cody Stotz had the best race of his career; he edged out Kyle Voss for second while right behind them Charlie Bloomenrader nipped Steve Fox on the last lap for fourth. The win was Bliese's seventh in the Mods, second only to Johnson's mark of 11 in the division at Miller Speedway.
